Episode 288: Joe Leoce of Albany

Joe Leoce is not really "of Albany" as in "he lives in Albany".  But he is the guy that started the New York State Advanced Squad Leader Championship. Otherwise known as the Albany Tournament. Joe worked with Trezza for many years on it, then Pleva came to help make it one of the best Tournaments in the U.S.   He also designs and builds some dioramas/models that are used as the prizes!

Joe had an ASL game story published in the old Fire for Effect Fanzine in 1993 and another in Critical Hit. There is some great history in this interview. Joe's love for the greatest game in the world is infectious indeed.

  2. Absolutely wonderful interview with Joe! I dropped into Albany in 2014 as a total newbie completely out of the blue and he made me feel SO welcomed that it really impacted how I feel about the global ASL community.

  3. Great episode! I've had the good fortune of being able to attend the New York State ASL Championships (Albany) the last 7 years that it was held Face-to-Face and over that time have gotten to know Joe. Simply an awesome individual! He, along with Gary "Board 9" Trezza and Steve (#1) Pleva run a world class tournament. As Joe mentioned in the Podcast, the Saturday evening raffle that Joe stocks, organizes, and runs is spectacular! Last year's raffle featured two Ken Smith ASL Box Cover prints, one of which I was fortunate enough to win. Additionally, Joe's dioramas are spectacular. I've had the good fortune of being able to bring home two of theses pieces of art, including last year's diorama featuring Patton and his dog. Hopefully, I will be able to attend many more of these Albany tournaments as they are ALWAYS a great time and sport a great field of competitors.
