Episode 270: Marvelous Mike Puccio

You may recognize the name of Michael J. Puccio from an article on Paratroopers or one called "A Cavalry Primer for Neighsayers" published in ASL Annual 97. Even if you have not heard of Mike, perhaps because you are a Starter Kit player, or you are a random hit on this site, you still will very well enjoy having a listen. Episode 269: Personal Morale Check

Advanced Squad Leader. What a game. What a bunch of rules. We help you keep it all straight with a look at rule 10, Morale and a brief admiration of Carl Nogueira's look at Heroes from a past issue of The Bunker.  In the box this week is Nor'Easter Pack II from Yankee ASL and printed by Le Franc Tireur. Dave presents a breakdown of the first half of the scenarios. He has some fluidity issues with his new HP computer running video programs and the sound is a bit staticky/garbled at times.  Apologies.

AT Mines are watcha need to make up a buncha
Daisy Chains, can only use them when an SSR's in place
Save for the Japanese, (they can do what they please), when it comes to Daisy Chains.

Daisy Chains, you place them in the pre-game set up phase
And you can set them during, a friendly fire phase
or you can do it in the enemy's movement, yes the movement phase!
Can place them when an AFV enters your hex
They are support weapons, they have PP of one, for every AT Mine factor

Episode 264: Crocs and Cows

We got a lot of great stuff for Christmas including the fascinating New England Volunteers Post Card
#1. Now that's a great way to send holiday greetings. In the box is the ASL March Madness Players Pack from our firends at Kansas City ASL. We take a look at some of the great sceanrios included therein.  We have been playing the scenarios from Operation Watchtower and have a discussion of the first three turns of HS11 The Sand Spit here on the show.  It's a night game. Neat-o. We are still learning how to do a video show and  edit it into a quality audio podcast, so please be patient with us. Feel free to send us some constructive advice and kindly give some ideas for improvement.  The show links include some pictures from Listener Pim, and an article on the 101st on Hells Highway. There was not enough time to cover them in this episode, so we will cover them in the next show and leave the links in here so you can have a preview now.

OBA
Lyrics by Dennis Donovan
Performed by The 2 Half-Squads Singers

Yesterday, read all about OBA, Gonna use it in my game today, can't wait to use some OBA
Artillery, it's way harder than it needs to be, there's confusion reigning over me, yeah OBA is not easy
Use the radio to contact the battery. If things don't go wrong, place AR, roll accuracy.
OBA: Replace the AR with a spotting round, roll for drift to see where it hits the ground, I believe the round will stray.
Where'd the SR go? Off the board by hexrow J. I think now it's gone. How I long for OBA.
ASL, it's such an easy game to play, until you try to use the OBA. Oh, I'm so done with OBA!

Episode 263: OBA Analysis With Rich

Rich Spilky joins us in the Broadcast Foxhole. He presents his analysis in the fine tradition of Bob Medrow's mathematical  analysis of various aspects of the game we love, Advanced Squad Leader, that appeared in the old General Magazine from Avalon Hill.  Special shout out to Chris Edwards for his work on the OBA analysis charts.

We have a contest ending January 15th. You need to call in using the button on the right side of the web page and give a "Shout Out"  to a cool alser that you know and would like to recognize in public. Then you will be entered into the contest and we will draw the winner on January 16th.   You can win a copy of A Decade of War, donated to us from fellow gamer Mark Woods.

Updates on our VASL and other gaming experiences are also shared for your listening enjoyment, as well as a look at Broken Ground Design's Mythical Mighty Maus Mouse Bundle.
