Episode 86: Get Your Barricades On!

This show begins with a bit of banter followed by some scenarios we have played lately. Hear an in-depth discussion of the Red Barricades rules. We covered a few of those rules in the last episode, and this time we cover the rooftop and cellar rules that apply to all Advanced Squad Leader scenarios, as well as the additional rules that were added specifically for Red Barricades. Oh, and of course, we don't forget the culverts, storage tanks, and Molotov Projectors.

Episode 85: Lots o' Boxes

It may not be Boxing Day, but there are a whole lot of boxes to go around in this episode. We tried to think outside of the box, but decided that boxes were the way to go. Bob Holmstrom joins us once again as "Box Art Review" makes its long awaited return. Not one, but two...count 'em two.... "What's in the Boxes?" appear here for your listening pleasure. Guess a 2 for 1 sale is always a good thing. We were feeling a little boxed in, so we introduce the Red Barricades rules with a look at sewers and tunnels. These rules apply to all of the Advanced Squad Leader scenarios. We plan to present part two of the Red Barricades rules in episode #86. Look for it soon.

Episode 84: Thank God for Tenure

Bob Holmstrom
We're always happy to have guests join us in the broadcast foxhole. Tonight we dust off the third microphone for seasoned Advanced Squad Leader player and friend, Robert (Bob) Holmstrom. Besides his warm demeanor and pleasant humor, he brings his many years of experience playing ASL. Bob's background -- coupled with Dave's -- actually makes this show a serious, credible resource for ASLers. We'll try to fix that in the future!

Episode 83: ASL Show and Tell 4 & 5

Here is our 2nd presentation of the Video Hang-outs that we call ASL Show and Tell.  Check the links below to find the video versions (which are much better by the way, because they have pictures and require less reading).  This episode enables you to add 'em to your itunes and give 'em a listen, if you don't have time to watch.  Show and Tell #4 features Jack Guritza, Sam Tyson, Steven Hicks, Mark Babick, and Mark Humphries.  Show and Tell #5 highlights Glider and Para rules and strategy as presented by Rich Spilky as a follow-up to episode #82.

Episode 82: Happy Landings

If you're prone to motion sickness, you may want to sit out this episode. Today we go back to the Advanced Squad Leader rule book for a look at stuff that falls out of the sky, specifically Gliders and Paratroops. If you've never played a scenario with either of these, we hope this episode will entice and persuade you to give them a try.

Of course, never ones to get right to the point, we first strain to entertain you with a reading of Letters, followed by a look at What's in the Box. This time, and in keeping with the theme of the show, we open a fresh copy of Pegasus Bridge. Ahh. Satisfying.

We had a hard time explaining what happens if a Glider or Paratroop gets moved offboard, so we've included some pics here to aid in comprehension -- we hope.
The example from Chapter E 8.221. Blue markers represent Avenue of Approach

Further, if the Glider were forced to take Evasive Action two hexes further offboard.
If you'd rather save yourself ninety-five minutes of precious time rather than listen to our rambling and babbling, we highly recommend you simply check out these excellent resources:
Greg Dahl's Paratrooper and Glider Summary Sheet
David Galan's Glider Landing Chart

Episode 81: Muddy Holiday AAR

Dave and Dave's playing of ASL
Scenario J136 Muddy Mayhem from
Journal #9's series at Suicide Creek.

Back again so soon?  Yes, we are. And so are you. This tidy little episode brings you two -- count 'em, Two! -- AARs (After Action Report). The first features tournament winner, Bob Holmstrom as he and Dave discuss their playing of Advanced Squad Leader scenario WO7 - Hell for the Holidays. It's full of tactical tips that go beyond the scenario at hand. Feel free to take notes.

During the second AAR, Dave Timonen and Dave Kleinschmidt discuss their playing of ASL scenario J136 - Muddy Mayhem. Beginning with a review of Mud rules, and the Muddy Mayhem SSR (Special Scenario Rules), they then dive into their encounter, each describing his plans, execution and results. The report is a look at how the Suicide Creek scenarios play out, things to think about while playing them.

Hey, do you see that "Record Message" tab? We're serious, hit it and leave us a message.
